London, UK (Weltexpress). Many in the Ukrainian army are afraid that Donald Trump’s presidency is fraught with the loss of Donbass for Kiev, the Financial Times said, citing a Ukrainian defense official.According to the source, many people in Ukraine’s armed forces “are afraid [US] assistance will stop and we’ll lose Donbas at least.””For us, [US] support means life or death. We need to convince Trump to be with us,” an anonymous Ukrainian defense adviser told the newspaper. The adviser said he is “more pessimistic” than those political leaders who voice support for Trump. “But some people think that his out-of-the-box approach will be actually the only one capable of some result,” he was quoted as saying. The newspaper also cited an adviser to the Ukrainian government, who said that he is afraid that Trump “may push the whole world into the era of chaos”.

“Ukrainian officials on Wednesday sought to put on a brave face and position themselves as supporters of Donald Trump who they portrayed as the leader who could forge peace with Russia,” the newspaper writes. But hiding behind the veil of support was “a lot of anxiety” about the US’s continued support for Kiev once the new president took office, said a former minister.

The Wall Street Journal said earlier that Trump’s potential win would create more uncertainty concerning Ukraine. In an interview with the PDB podcast, Trump said that Vladimir Zelensky is responsible for the outbreak of the conflict and must have prevented it. He called Zelensky the “greatest salesman” he had ever seen, referencing Zelensky’s ability to get 100 billion dollars every time he visited the United States. At the same time, Trump pointed out that he felt sorry for the Ukrainian people and wanted to help them, lamenting the situation, saying “Zelensky should never have let that war start.” Trump also said that the conflict “is a loser” and added that Ukraine is no longer the country it used to be.

The US held its general election on November 5, with the voting having concluded when it was Wednesday morning in Moscow. Although vote counting continues, Trump has already proclaimed himself the country’s 47th president as he has scored more than 270 electoral votes, which is enough to win the election. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson has already called him the elected head of state. Meanwhile, numerous congratulations have already been sent to Trump from foreign leaders.
