New York, USA (Weltexpress). US President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) as the Director of National Intelligence, Trump’s transition team announced.Previously, Gabbard was Democratic lawmaker and even ran in 2020 presidential election as a Dem candidate. However, later, she started to criticize her party’s position on a number of foreign policy issues, including the support for Ukraine. Currently, Gabbard is an active supporter of Trump and the Republican agenda, and was his ally during the presidential race.

Gabbard is known for her criticism of the US’ foreign policy regarding Ukraine and Russia. She claimed that the Biden Administration sought to prolong the Ukrainian conflict in order to weaken Russia and called for peace talks. In 2022, Gabbard stated that any settlement attempt would include territorial concessions from Ukraine and its neutral status. She also underscored the need for the US’ participation in the peacekeeping process and criticized the arms shipments for Ukraine, saying that this would only exacerbate the situation.
