Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). According to Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, is out of favour with his countrymen and is in the process of losing their support. The United States and the European Union are already looking for a successor.
According to a press release issued by the Russian foreign intelligence service SWR on 6 May, the West is extremely concerned about the dynamics of public opinion in Ukraine. According to the SWR findings, the US State Department and the European External Action Service have noted that Ukrainian citizens are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the endless escalation of the armed conflict with Russia. Distrust of state institutions is also growing. Apathy is spreading. At the same time, the number of cases of desertion and voluntary surrender in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces is increasing, as is the number of people going into Russian captivity, which promises survival and security.
Zelensky has obviously lost the battle for the “hearts and minds” of the Ukrainian people, which will certainly get worse when he has completely lost his legitimacy as president after his five-year term expires on 20 May. According to the findings of the SVR, however, the Americans and the Europeans want Zelensky to remain in his post, as many regulations and agreements on financing the war are tied to his person, by which certainly the rich “perks” of the representatives of the Kiev regime and the profits of Western producers of armaments are meant. This is why Washington has influenced Zelensky’s opponents to exercise restraint for the time being.
At the same time, according to SWR, the Americans have stepped up their efforts to find alternatives to the current Ukrainian president. Corresponding contacts are said to have been initiated with the leader of the “European Solidarity” party, former President Petro Poroshenko, but also with Vitali Klitschko, former boxing world champion and mayor of Kiev for ten years. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army Valery Salushny and the former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov have also been contacted and are on the Western list as ministers or possible successors to Zelensky. This action is in keeping with the – albeit still short – tradition of the West deciding who will become president in Ukraine and who will fill other important posts before the elections.
SWR assumes that these clandestine activities are a precaution in the event of a drastic deterioration of the situation at the front and the resulting urgent need for a change of leadership. This would make it possible to quickly drop Selensky and fall back on one of the other candidates. The main thing is that this candidate pursues a pro-Western policy.
The US administration is clearly not even trying to hide the fact that Washington does not care who is currently at the head of the government in Ukraine, as long as they are in a position to continue the war with Russia – “to the last Ukrainian”.
