Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). The name says it all: Beef Grill Club by Hasir. König Kunde can visit the Beef Grill Club at special locations in Berlin. One is located in the so-called Sixth Floor, the famous food and drink floor in the Kaufhaus des Westens, or KaDeWe for short. Customers have been able to shop in this superlative department stores’ in Tauentzienstraße on Wittenbergplatz since 27 March 1907. Since the end of the 1920s, the delicatessen department has been an attraction for gourmets and gourmands.
Today, the Sixth mainly stands for a wide range of restaurants and bars and offers all kinds of treats for the eyes and palate at food counters. Delicacies from all over the world are waiting to be discovered, marvelled at and tasted. Well-being at Wittenbergplatz!
It goes without saying that the KaDeWe is also about seeing and being seen, and this also applies to the beef at the Beef Grill Club by Hasir. It matures under the eyes of those arriving in a beautiful cupboard with a glass pane, which better eaters press their noses against. Is it possible to get enough of dry-aged beef, the house speciality and the basis for the best steaks in the world? The best beef from the United States of America hangs in the Himalayan salt maturing cabinet for at least four weeks.
Right next to it, you want to stick your nose in the smoke rising from the grill, but it is extracted. Nevertheless, it’s not just the ladies who can smell the aromas of barbecue from the open show kitchen. There, the best cuts of beef are carefully and skilfully prepared by head chef Serdar Sükür and his colleagues. That alone is enough to make your mouth water. Ömer Akovali, who has been Operation Manager for every Beef Club by Hasir in Berlin since August 2022, assures us that the Beef Grill Club by Hasir stands for authentic steaks and dry-aged beef and is prepared exclusively on charcoal, and recommends beef tartare to start with.
The steak tartare at the Beef Grill Club by Hasir is a must. “The meat is freshly prepared every morning,” says Ömer Akovali. It is prepared in front of our eyes at one of the 110 seats at the tables with egg yolk, mustard, shallots, anchovies and capers – with cognac on request. Great!
The wine selection is also outstanding. Sommelier Oliver Töremis points out rare wines, white wines, red wines and rosé wines whose flavour and prices are top notch. How about a bottle of 2016 Chateau Margaux, Pavillon Rogue? A beer is also available and is served just as gallantly by Faruk Karakus, one of the smartly dressed waiters. If you prefer, you can treat yourself to a pilsner, degistif or cocktail at the bar (20 bar stools).
But before that, master cuts such as Chateaubriand, Tomahawk, dry aged US Prime Rib, dry aged US Porterhouse, dry aged US TBone and rack of lamb or steaks such as Filet Mignong, dry aged US Entrecôte, Hasir Angus Köfte are waiting to be savoured. It’s a good thing that the Beef Grill Club by Hasir in KaDeWe has a roof over the restaurant, otherwise you wouldn’t just be floating in seventh (beef) heaven above Wittenbergplatz at this meat festival in the Sixth, but in heaven above Berlin!
There’s no question that the side dishes, including grilled vegetables, green beans, spinach, truffled mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes with jalapeños, are just as impressive as the homemade sauces, ranging from barnaise sauce to port wine jus and green pepper sauce, as are the desserts.
