Pretoria, Republic of South Africa (Weltexpress). Officials from the Republic of Ghana have increased domestic procurement prices for cocoa beans by 62.5%, said Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson on X (4 August 2025). ‘The government is pleased to announce an increase in the producer price for cocoa from $3,100 per tonne to $5,040 per tonne,’ the minister said. This should be particularly welcome news for cocoa producers, but also for their wage labourers.
The new prices for cocoa beans will come into effect on 7 August 2025. The Republic of Ghana ranks second in the world in terms of cocoa production volume. The Ivory Coast, also known as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is by far the largest cocoa producer. It is followed by the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Ecuador, the Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Cameroon, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Peru, the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Colombia.
