Tokyo, Japan (Weltexpress). Japan and the United States of America (USA) have negotiated a trade agreement that provides for a reduction in general tariffs to 15% by Washington, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ischiba told reporters.

‘We have reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump. First, we have agreed to reduce the additional tariffs on cars introduced in April by 25%, so that they will be 15%, subject to the effective tariff,’ Ishida said. ‘Second, the reciprocal tariffs on Japan, which were to rise to 25% [from 1 August], will be reduced to 15%,’ the prime minister said. This is ‘the lowest level’ among countries with which the US has a trade deficit, he noted.

The agreement reached does not provide for a reduction in Japanese tariffs, including on agricultural products, Ishihara added.
