Seoul, Republic of Korea (Weltexpress). Nearly 150,000 people are taking part in a rally demanding the resignation of the President of the Republic of Korea in Seoul’s Yeouido district, where the National Assembly is located, Yonhap news agency.
According to the agency’s sources in the police, at 17:30 local time 149,000 people had gathered in front of the parliament. Organizers, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, put the number of participants at one million.
A parallel rally by conservative groups in support of the president is taking place near Gwanghwamun Square in the center of the capital. According to Yonhap, the number of participants reached 20,000 people. At the same time, the organizers claim that one million people took to the streets in support of the head of state.
On December 7, the parliament will vote on the impeachment of the president of the Republic of Korea. The ruling party has decided to boycott the vote. The impeachment requires 200 votes out of 300. The ruling party has 108 seats. Earlier, a bill to investigate the first lady on suspicion of corruption was rejected.
