Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). Let’s dance away now that spring is here! Swing merrily to Bavarian music and listen to the sound of barrels being tapped when that pale, very strong lager gushes into the tankards for the first and festive time.
Hofbräu Maibock: malty aroma, full-bodied – May Dance
It’s near Alexanderplatz in the city centre where you can hear the Hofbräuhaus Showband play and while listening are sure to move your hips to Bavarian beats. “Waiters and waitresses in prim and proper Dirndl and Lederhosen and shows put on stage provide the entertainment one is looking for”, promises CEO Christian Gohl.
First tapping of Maibock
“As a special treat in the evening we tap a 55-liter barrel Maibock with you to join in for the fun”, Gohl goes on and awaits admission free (!) “Up to 1,200 people raving for Bavarian hospitality … on an area of 2,000 square meters.”
For those who are hungry favourite dishes like Wiener Schnitzel with Bavarian potato salad and cranberries or Hofbräu Schlachter plate for two, served in a pan, are a good bargain. It includes half a crispy pork knuckle, roast pork, Leberkäs – let a Lederhosen or a Dirndl directly explain to you what all of this is – Rostbratwürstli, Weißwurst, potato dumplings, cabbage, sauerkraut and dark beer sauce as an extra. The latter of course goes well with the Maibock. Bock beers are from amber to hazelnut brown in colour and very malt-accented, Maibock however tasting less malty, being brewed entirely with pale malts to present warm golden hues and hopped to a far larger extent than others bocks to give the refreshing note. It has 6 to 7% alcohol by volume, and quite a bitter taste, coming from spicy peppery hops. Now do hop into Hofbräu for a Maibock!
