Over 800 dead due to torrential rains in Pakistan since the end of June 2025

Islamabad, Pakistan (Weltexpress). According to the National Disaster Management Authority, at least 804 people have died and 1,088 have been injured in Pakistan since 26 June 2025 as a result of monsoon rains and subsequent flooding. The north-western province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the worst affected, with the monsoon and subsequent rainfall claiming 479 lives. In the eastern province of Punjab, 167 people died. 5,700 buildings were damaged by the floodwaters, around 1,700 of which were completely destroyed.

More than 800 rescue operations were carried out, and temporary hospitals and camps for displaced persons were set up, accommodating around 30,000 people. Geo TV reported, citing the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, that the region is expecting further major flooding as water is being released from dams on Indian territory.

Water levels in the Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers are rising. More than 174,000 residents of the affected neighbourhoods have been evacuated. The Punjab government has asked the federal authorities to involve the military in the rescue efforts.

The monsoon season in Pakistan usually lasts from June to September and brings heavy rainfall, which is vital for agriculture but often leads to flooding and other natural disasters in the region.
