Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). On 9 and 10 May 2026, the 14th Berlin Go tournament, the ‘China Cup Berlin’, is to be held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Berlin. Go, known primarily as Weigi in the People’s Republic of China, as Baduk in the two Korean states and as Igo in Japan, is a board game over 4,000 years old that is considered a strategic game. The aim remains the same: by placing one’s stones wisely, to control more free intersections (territories) through encirclement with one’s own stones than the opponent, whom one must defeat.
Once placed, the stones may not be moved, unless they are removed from the board when they are completely surrounded by the opponent’s stones.
It seems that not only Go players from Berlin and Brandenburg in the fragmented ‘small German’ solution are invited, but ‘all Go enthusiasts’ amongst the residents, to take part in the tournament or attend as spectators.
