New York, USA (Weltepress). One day after the swearing-in of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America (USA), his administration will begin to fulfil his campaign promise of mass deportation of illegal immigrants, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Friday, 17 January 2025, citing sources. The mass deportation of illegal immigrants is apparently to begin in Chicago in the US state of Illinois.

According to the report, a ‘large-scale raid’ is to begin in Chicago on Tuesday morning and is expected to last all week. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency could send up to 200 officers to carry out the operation, which is aimed at immigrants with criminal backgrounds who are in the country illegally, according to the WSJ.

New York, Los Angeles, Denver and Miami are also in the government’s crosshairs.

CNN had previously reported that Trump’s team is putting together a package of tough immigration laws to be unveiled just hours after his inauguration on 20 January.

Immigration was one of the main points of contention during the recent US presidential election campaign.
