Weltexpress’ feature on a Laggner Group establishment takes a closer look at the Gendarmerie – Berlin.

The Gendarmerie is located in the heart of Berlin – the historic Gendarmenmarkt.

Near the famous Unter den Linden, Friedrichstraße, opera houses and museum island, a stroll in Stadtmitte before dining in the Gendarmerie is highly recommended.

The Gendarmerie is an impressive metropolitan restaurant positioned in an old bank building – 400 square meters and eight meter high interior is described as the “Gastronomical Cathedral”.

Annabelle Selldorf, a New York star architect enhanced the colors and bog oak floors with special lighting elements and ceiling lights.

An impressive freestanding, seventeen-meter bar dominates the room alined with an inspirational wall sculpture – the wood sculpture is the world’s largest – 7 tons, 14,5 by 5 meter artwork, handcrafted by French-Cnadian, Jean-Yves Klein graces the wall.

The up-market kitchen’s accent is French, but seasonal specialties include U.S. Rib-Eye steaks, sea food and Berlin style cuisine.

The extra special something bar is one of Berlin’s finest – you name your favorite drink and it will be richly served.

The oyster bar – Austernbank, is situated in the old bank vaults. The vault restaurant features a smoker’s lounge with its own bar.

The Austernbank and bar-lounge is a Berlin insider-tip.
