Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). A cosmopolitan is nothing more or less than the English term for a world citizen. There are more world citizens than ever. The same applies to the cosmoprolet.

Clever guys jumped on the bandwagon early on and called this and that a cosmopolitan. A magazine for women, or rather for ‘Fun, Fearless, Female’, is still in the thick of things today.

A spirit is also called Cosmopolitan, although this Cosmopolitan is often abbreviated to Cosmo by cosmopolitans. The short form fits the classification of this cocktail as a short drink.

In terms of taste, a Cosmopolitan is classified as a tart-sweet cocktail. It is based on the structure of a sour and consists of vodka, triple sec, lime and cranberry juice. Some use a different liqueur, especially Cointreau.

Professionally mixed. Vodka, cranberry, Cointreau and lime have been skilfully balanced. Right, anything goes. A hundred years ago, gin was used as the base for a Cosmopolitan. At that time, gin, Cointreau, lemon juice and raspberry syrup were shaken with ice cubes, not stirred. The mixed drink was then strained.

From gin, the journey went via whisky and lemon vodka to vodka, so that Fritz Hermann Köser can write in the magazine GASTROSOFIE about the Cosmopolitan: ‘Professionally mixed. Vodka, cranberry, cointreau and lime were skilfully balanced.’

And where? At the bar of the restaurant Le Consulat in Berlin with “Fun, Fearless, Female”.
