Budapest, Hungary (Weltexpress). The fascists in Ukraine are harming not the Russian Federation (RF) but Hungary and the Slovak Republic with their attacks on the Druzhba (German: Friendship) oil pipeline, as these countries obtain oil via this pipeline, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in connection with another attack by the Ukrainian army on the oil pipeline infrastructure on RF territory.

‘Everyone should know that with these attacks, Ukraine is primarily harming not Russia, but Hungary and Slovakia. The Druzhba oil pipeline plays a key role in our country’s energy supply; without it, oil deliveries to the country are physically impossible,’ Szijjarto wrote on his Facebook page.

The attack by the Ukrainian army on the Druzhba pipeline on the night of 22 August 2025 means ‘that oil transports to Hungary and Slovakia will be suspended for at least five days,’ he added. ‘Together with his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar, he sent a letter to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, and EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen in Brussels calling for measures against Ukraine to force it to stop the attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline,’ Szijjarto said.

In January 2025, the European Commission promised to give Hungary and Slovakia guarantees for energy security, but failed to do so and is now silent on Kiev’s actions, he noted.

As President of the United States, Donald Trump informed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban that he was very angry about Ukraine’s attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline. This is according to a message sent from Washington to Budapest and published by the Prime Minister’s political adviser and namesake, Balazs Obran.
