Frankfurt am Main, Germany (Weltexpress). Are you still sleeping or are you already living? The saying also fits the new Intercity Hotel on Mannheimer Straße in Frankfurt am Main, not on the Oder. On the south side of Frankfurt’s main train station, the 414-room Intercity hotel was built in recent months.
And every single one is, it seems, timelessly beautiful – Nordic sober, practical and passable with everything that traveling salesmen need today. Yes, high-speed Wi-Fi is also available in the entire hotel and free of charge. A large map of the city centre in grey scales completes the rectangular image, which has been available to all guests since December 1, 2019.
“That we can get the Intercity Hotel Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof Süd into operation earlier than planned on December 1, 2018 makes us particularly proud today,” said Joachim Marusczyk, Managing Director of Intercity-Hotel GmbH. The opening was planned for early 2019.
Seen from the outside, this large building that does not rise up to high, however in its basement has enough space for vehicles in an underground car park, puts up an urban and modern appearance. That suits “Mainhattan”, even if it’s no skyscraper.
Inside, they say the exterior carries “the handwriting of the Italian architect Matteo Thun”, as one is sure of at Deutsche Hospitality, to which the brand Intercity-Hotel belongs. “Living trees and a moss-planted wall in the lobby hallway” would provide “fresh air.” “The ivy-green courtyard” fits. “Also in the rooms, the restaurant and the conference rooms” “the jointly developed concept was implemented”. Clear lines, clear edge, Nordic sobriety, as stated. But, after all, blazing in the lobby is a fire in a – to say the least – cosy corner overlooking the train station, and the hectic bustle in and around it.
Don’t worry – in the rooms above the traffic is peace and quiet, especially in those who have their windows facing the courtyard.
Seen in this way the situation is luxurious. No question: from the Intercity-Hotel you are in no time at the train station, get access to long-distance trains, and to where the long-distance buses leave – plus good connections for regional and urban transport. Guests can fly off in all directions, like the fairground and the airport, the river Main and to the Römer as the heart of the “Neue Altstadt”. Indeed, a strange way of putting it.
In addition, as everywhere in Intercity hotels, guests receive the Free City Ticket included in the room price, allowing them to use public transport for the duration of their stay free of charge.
