Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). As at the Vinitaly trade fair in Verona in April 2024, so too at the Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) trade fair in October 2024, Grappa will be there, and in particular that of the Consorzio Nazionale Grappa from the Republic of Italy. This Italian consortium is talking about a ‘renaissance of grappa’. Connoisseurs and critics don’t need to be told twice and drink.

Not only during the BCB abbreviated trade fair, but also at a Grappa evening at the La Maremma restaurant at Roseneck in the Berlin district of Grunewald on 14 October 2024, there was talk and tasting. During the standing party, which lasted several hours, there was also a dive ‘into the world of Italian premium grappa’. If it’s an ‘Explore – Italian Grappa Journey’, then it should be done right, with 100% Italian food and drink.

The fact that ‘two years ago… the Consorzio Nazionale Grappa (CNG – an association for the protection, promotion and assurance of the quality of premium class grappa with a geographical indication of origin – was founded in Italy’ was recently in a PR release, and it was pointed out that the ‘Consorzio… is a non-profit organisation founded by leading Italian grappa producers to protect the quality of grappa. Grappa is considered a high-quality distillate and is suitable for a variety of drinking occasions.

More than ever, a good Grappa is used for delicious cocktails.

Sebastiano Caffo, President of the CNG, not only raised a glass of grappa, but also the odd cocktail, and said: ‘Grappa has unique characteristics and is a 100% Italian distillate, from the raw material to the distillation and processing. All members of the CNG have a certificate issued by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and verified by a special control body that guarantees the authenticity of the product.’

Caffo and colleagues, along with their guests, raised not only their glasses but also the Consorzio’s logo, which was ‘designed as a collective brand’. The grappa emblem ‘embraces (the grappa glass – copper-coloured like the still – that gives it life, as well as the three drops, inspired by the colours of the Italian flag),’ explained Sebastiano Caffo.

Among the invited guests at the Berlin Grappa Evening, held at the Renaissance am Roseneck in Grunewald, were representatives of ‘distilleries from various regions of Italy’, who presented selected products. Try the grappas of the Consorzio Nazionale Grappa for yourself.
