Moscow, Russia (Weltexpress) – Co-founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, said that access to ‘some Russian media’ in Europe has been restricted, in accordance with the Digital Services Act and EU sanctions. ‘Access to certain Russian media has been restricted in the EU under the DSA/sanctions laws,’ Durov wrote on his blog, noting that “all Telegram channels of Western media remain freely accessible in Russia”. “Who would have thought that in 2025, Russian Telegram users would enjoy more freedom than European ones?” he asked.

The Russian Federation (RF) demands that international organisations respond appropriately to the blocking of Russian media Telegram channels in

EU countries, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, indicating that the restrictions will not go unanswered.

In her statement, the diplomat mentioned the need for a response from the UN’s human rights mechanisms, the leadership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and its Director-General Audrey Azoulay, and the Representative on Freedom of the Media of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Ian Bratu.
