Moscow, RF (Weltexpress). Former heavyweight boxing world champion George Foreman has died at the age of 76, as his relatives announced in a farewell post on his Instagram page. ‘It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully left us on 21 March 2025, surrounded by his loved ones… We are grateful for the many expressions of love and prayers and ask for silence as we honour the extraordinary life of a man we were privileged to call our own,’ the statement said.

Foreman, who was born in the USA in 1949, competed in the heavyweight class from 1969 to 1977 and again from 1987 to 1997. The American became champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO). He was twice voted Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine, in 1973 and 1976. In 1994, at the age of 45, he became the oldest world champion in boxing history, winning the WBA and IBF titles. Although his fellow countryman Bernard Hopkins broke this record in 2010, Foreman remains the oldest heavyweight world champion. He also won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games. Foreman fought a total of 81 fights, winning 76 (68 by knockout) and losing five.
