Berlin, Germany (Weltexpress). The beauty is sitting next to me in “Beast Berlin”. And the beauty of this Beast, the restaurant “Beast Berlin” on and above the corner of Alexanderstraße and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, is both the beauty of it and the beauty in it. The location was once known as the “Pressecafé” (in GDR times), then as the “Escados” restaurant (when East Berlin was still wild). Since the beginning of June 2024, the doors to “Beast Berlin” have been open at the top of the stairs.

The press has also been there, but not to drink coffee with Alexander Freund, the well-known Berlin restaurateur, whose businesses continue to grow like the metropolis, but to eat meat. Freund has already celebrated many openings and success stories in Berlin. The “Pirates” in an old mill warehouse on the Oberbaumbrücke bridge over the Spree stands out. The “Strandbad Grünau” on the Lange See and the “Jäger & Lustig” in Friedrichshain are also very popular with connoisseurs and critics, ranking high. The fact that the gallantly well furnished restaurant “Fischer & Lustig” in Berlin’s Nikolai neighborhood holds its own, serving redfish and Labskaus alongside ox cheeks and Königsberger Klopsen is worthy of an appreciative headline in itself.

Now the “Beast Berlin”, a steakhouse that not only makes every „Blockhouse“ in Berlin look old, but also stands up to the “Grill Royal” and “Beef Grill Club by Hasir”. Not only is the location on the first floor of the building, which is in itself an architectural eye-catcher, full of history and stories – after all, it used to be the conference floor of the famous „Pressecafé“ – but it has also been exquisitely designed. The interior, on the one hand “dark” with large window fronts on three sides, through which the light floods in, is harmoniously brought up to date with glowing colors reminiscent of the embers of a barbecue: the “Beast Berlin” is a modern steakhouse. Basta!

To the heat of the haute couture interior design – even the smallest utensil is in harmony with the interior – a cool blond beer goes well. Incidentally, the „trübe“ natural pilsner called “Werner” was brewed exclusively for the “Beast Berlin”. The Pilsen-style beer called “Edel Beast” is for gourmands and gourmets alike, the latter being also delighted with the wine selection. A Pinot Noir from Durbach is on the menu as a “Beast Selection”, as is an El Coto Crianza DOC from Rioja. Along with these, one of over a handful of Durbach fruit brandies and the “Tatar vom Weidering” can also be served. This is included in a “Meat & Greet” for two people. If you don’t know what to choose, how about prime rib from a young bull (“Dry Age Cowboy Steak”) or tomahawk from a Swabian free-range pig (“Tortuga Steak”), then order the chef’s menu.

With the “Cazpacho & Prawn”, a grilled prawn greets you from the cold vegetable bowl (“refreshing vegetable soup”), just like with the “Meat & Greet”. The “Beast Wellington” is as hot as all of Berlin in summer thanks to its fantastic puff pastry coating. My fillet steak with pâté is delicious – in other words, it couldn’t be more cool. The beauty at my side agrees and doesn’t see it any differently. She recognizes without envy that the “Buddy Toffy Pudding” is also the latest hot shit. An epicurean light in this metropolis!
