St. Ives, Cornwall, UK (Weltexpress). Two weeks each year, St. Ives, a small harbour town on the coast of Cornwall, with a population of approximately 10,000, is all about music, art and theater. Not only can visitors relax on wonderful beaches, of which there are three, but taking in Cornish culture is a special treat.
The Beaches
No question, Porthminster Beach and the smaller beach Porthwidden invites you to loll and swim, but the St. Ives September Festival is a wonderful cultural experience. Once there, Carbis Bay and St. Ives Bay are perfect beach holidays. The fine sand and long wide beach front shores are very inviting. Tourism began with the construction of the railway. Nearly 140 years later, the boom continues on the bays.
The Tate Gallery – St. Ives and the September Festival
After a wonderful bathing season, St. Ives September Festival and the Tate Gallery is a must visit. One of four Tate Galleries in the United Kingdom – open all year round, is especially important to Cornish art and exhibitions.
The Gardens and Art
Noteworthy, are the gardens. A visit to the St. Ives Garden should include a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Also a visit to Leach Pottery and the St. Ives Arts Club, founded in 1890, is highly recommended.
